Monroe Murder Suspect Arrested In Matthews

Monroe Police say Torey Jermaine Brooks was arrested Wednesday in Matthews. Brooks was wanted for the first degree Murder, as well as other charges, of 22-year-old David Duncan on April 29th.

MONROE, NC – Police say 36-year-old Torey Jermaine Brooks is the suspect who opened fire early Sunday morning, killing a man, and hurting three others.

“The music was going loud. About that time I heard, ‘Pow! Pow! Pow!'” explains Monroe resident James T. William.

William says he was in bed when the gunshots rang out inside the home where he lives with his son, on Massey Street Extension.

“I got up and put my pants on, went in the kitchen, and there was a guy laying down on the table,” William says.

Investigators say 22-year-old David Tyrone Duncan died. 41-year-old Joshua Robinson is in critical but stable condition at the hospital. 49-year-old Rene Lowery and Jessica Gibson, 26, were treated and released.

Investigators say they don’t know what led to the shooting.

The house is just behind the scene of another deadly shooting one week ago. Four people were shot and one died a the Relax Inn on Highway 74 on April 22nd.

There’s no word of the shootings are connected.
